Yes, some simpletons (especially Salafī laymen) need to understand that scholars in the past had no issue with the terminology Sufism (I remember reading a poem by Ibn al-Qayyim Inl think where He described himself as a Sunni and Sufi), others dislike the term and prefer not to associate with it (due to the extremists Qubūri Sūfis championing it), however, no Sunni Muslim has ever disputed that the concept of purification of the soul as a whole is and always has been central to the message of Islam.

You opposition to heretics like the Rāfidah shouldn’t diminish your love for the Ahlul-Bayt (A) neither should your opposition to the cousins of the Rāfidah, the Qubūri (grave-venerating) extremists Sūfis make you forget to study and apply an essential Islamic science, a science and knowledge that is paramount to nurture ones heart and soul.
