Know That He Is A Jahmi!

فاعلم إنه جهمي – Know that he is a Jahmi

Ibn Rahawayh (راهويه is a Persian nickname, however he was of Arab-Persian descent) said:

‘Tashbih (likening Allah to his creation) is if it is said: A Hand like my hand, or similar to my hand, it is said: Hearing like my Hearing, or similar to my hearing, then this is tashbih. But if what is being said is what Allah has said: Hand, Hearing, Seeing and it is not asked how, nor is it said: like my hearing or similar to my hearing – then it is not tashbih. Allah, the Most Blessed and Most High, said in His Book: “There is none like Unto Him,and he is the all-Hearing,the all-Seeing.”’

A Giant from amongst the Salaf, Amir al-Mu`minin in hadith, Abdullah Ibn al-Mubarak (Khawarizmi of Turkmanish descent) said:

‏قال عبد الله بن المبارك: «من قال لك يا مشبه فاعلم أنه جهمي» [رواه ابن مندة في شرح حديث النزول 53].

‘If someone says “O mushabbih (the one who likens Allah to His creation) to you, then know that he is a Jahmi.’ [Ibn Mundah in the explanation of the hadith of Nuzul 53]

Another giant from amongst the Salaf, from Pre-Safavid (Rafidi Persia), Abu Hatim Al-Razi (of Persian dewcent. Razi = someone from Rayy and Ray is part of modern day Greater Tehran):

أبو حاتم الرازي رحمه الله: “وعلامة أهل البدع الوقيعة في أهل الأثر، وعلامة الزنادقة تسميتهم أهل السنة حشوية يريدون إبطال الأثر وعلامة الجهمية تسميتهم أهل السنة مشبهة”

شرح أصول اعتقاد أهل السنة 1/179.

‘And from the signs of the people of bid’ah and the zanadiqah (heretics) who attack the people of al-Athar (Ahlul-Sunnah) is that they call the people of the Sunnah (Ahlul-Sunnah) as Hashawiyyah. And from the signs of the Jahmiyyah is that they call Ahlul-Sunnah as mushabbihah (those who liken Allah to his creation).’ [Sharh Usul I’tiqad Ahlus-Sunnah by Al-Lalaka`i, 1/179]
