Twelver Takfiri Shi’ism: Every Sahabi Is A Kafir Until Proven Otherwise!

‘Ayatollah’ Ali Namazi Shahroudi (may Allah torment his soul for eternity)

The rancour which the Shia harbour for the noble Sahabah (رضي الله عنهم) needs no introduction and it is quite commonplace to find them levelling unfounded tenuous accusations against the esteemed companions and students of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on account of their bigotry. One such accusation has been levelled against the Sahabah in general that they all became apostate after the demise of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).

This vicious Takfiri ideology is actually based on Shia narrations that unequivocally state that all Sahabah (except for a handful) apostatised after the demise of the Prophet (ﷺ) for rejecting the alleged most important (!) pillar of Islam i.e. the myth of Wilayah/Imamah. A belief of mass-Takfir against hundreds of thousands of Sahabah or in the words of the renowned Twelver Shia scholar Ali Namazi Shahroudi (d. 1402 AH) who says:

“We conclude from the big quantity of [Shia] narrations declaring that all [Sahabah] apostatised after the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله) except three or four, that the general rule for every Sahabi (companion) who remained alive after the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله) and did not become a martyr in his time is that he will be charged with apostasy for placing the non-chosen leader in authority over the chosen leader, or al-Fisq (impiety) of his shortcomings when it came to his (i.e. ‘Ali) rights. Thus it is not possible to assume the reliability of any of them (i.e. Sahabah) except through a specific divine text.” [Mustadrakat ‘Ilm Rijal al-Hadith” 1/67:]

There you go, the default Twelver position is that every Sahabi is a kafir murtadd fasiq until proven otherwise. Even the ancient Khawarij (who did make takfir on the likes of Mu’awiyah, ‘Ali, etc.) were not that extreme. In Islam we have Husn al-Dhann even for an average Muslim of the 21st century, in Rafidism mass-Takfir against the Sahabah is the default position (then they have the audacity to speak of ‘Takfiri-Vahhabis’) and this goes all back to the curse and heresy, the mother of all lies and Rafidi shirk, ghuluw, and superstitions, i.e. their belief in twelve prophet-like (in fact superior) demigod imams i.e. the failed and impractical Shia concept of divine Grace (Lutf) and Imamah.

Their mass-takfir on the Sahabah are based on narration such as the following that they deem authentic:

“Abu Ja’farعليه السلامsaid: The people turned back except three individuals – Salman, Abu Dhar and Miqdad. I said: What about Ammar? He عليه السلام said: He swerved a bit then returned (to the truth) … then the people returned after that, so the first ones to return were Abu Sasan al-Ansari, Abu Amra and Shatira. Thus they became seven. None recognized the right of the Commander of the Faithful عليه السلام except these seven.” [Rijal al-Kashshi]

al-Harith b. al-Mughira al-Nasri said: I heard Abd al-Malik b. A’yan asking Aba Abdillah عليه السلام – and he did not cease asking him – until he said to him: So the people were destroyed then (i.e. after the Messenger of Allah)? He (the Imam) said: Yes, by Allah, O the son of A’yan, all the people were destroyed. I (Abd al-Malik) said: Whomever was in the east and the west? He said: It (the eastern and western lands) were conquered upon misguidance, yes, by Allah, they were all destroyed, except three, then joined Abu Sasan, Ammar, Shatira and Abu Amra, so they became seven.” [Rijal al-Kashshi: No. 14, with a reliable chain; See also al-Kafi: Vol. 8 Pg. 253, No. 356]

“Humran said: I said to Abi Ja’far عليه السلام – How few we (the Shias) are! If we were to gather to eat a sheep we would not be able to finish it! So he (the Imam) عليه السلام said: Should I not inform you of something even more bewildering? I said: Yes (do so). He (the Imam) said: The Muhajirun and the Ansar all perished except for – and he gestured with his hand – three.” [Rijal al-Kashshi: No. 15, with a reliable chain; See also al-Kafi: Vol. 2 Pg. 244, No. 6]

Note: Some Rafidis try to dilute these vicious takfiri narrations by pointing out that some of their narrations mention that some Sahabah repented and joined the the less than a handful Sahabah who did not apostatise. This doesn't change anything, because even according to the most moderate Rafidi position, the bulk of the Sahabah, especially the Muhajirun and Ansar (!) were renegades at best and hypocrites i.e. the worst type of kuffar in reality.

These heresies that are attributed to the Ahl al-Bayt boldly oppose the Qur’an where the foremost of the Muhajirun and Ansar and those who followed them are introduced as role models to mankind (unlike the twelve Imams who are nowhere mentioned in the Qur’an.

{And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct – Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment. [Qur’an, 9:100]

And:

{And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers – We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination.} [Qur’an, 4:115]

In fact, the likes of Muhammad b. ‘Ali, Ja’far b. Muhammad, etc. have to follow the chiefs of the Sahabah and can never reach their rank.

Here is another Takfiri-Rafidi report:

From Durays said: ’The people were arguing before Abī Ja`far (i.e. Muhammad b. ‘Ali al-Baqir) (عليه السلام). Some of them said that the people who fought `Alī (عليه السلام) were more evil than the people who fought the Messenger of Allāh (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). And some of them say that those who fought the Messenger of Allāh (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) were more evil than the people who fought `Alī (عليه السلام).’ He (Durays) said: Abū Ja`far(عليه السلام) heard them and he (عليه السلام) said: ‘What are you saying?’. So they said: ‘May Allāh keep you well, we are arguing about the people who fought the Messenger of Allāh (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and about those who fought `Alī (عليه السلام)’. So some of us say the people who fought `Alī (عليه السلام) were more evil than those who fought the Messenger of Allāh (عليه السلام). And so of us say the people who fought the Messenger of Allāh (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) were more evil than those who fought `Alī (عليه السلام). So Abū Ja`far (عليه السلام) said: “No, rather those who fought `Alī (عليه السلام) were more evil.” So I said to him (عليه السلام): “May I be in your ransom, the people who fought `Alī (عليه السلام) were worse than those who fought the Messenger of Allāh (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)?” He (عليه السلام) said: “Yes, I will inform you about that. Verily, those who fought the Messenger of Allāh (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) did not acknowledge Islām, and those who fought `Alī (عليه السلام) acknowledged Islām then they rejected it.” [al-Kulaynī, al-Kafī, ed. `Alī Akbar al-Ghaffārī, 8 vols., (Tehran: Dār al-Kutub al-Islāmiyyah, 3rd Edition, 1388 AH), vol. 8, pg. 252, hadith # 353]

Fighting ‘Ali = rejecting Islam! As if ‘Ali b. Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) is Allah or His Messenger (ﷺ)! Even the people who fought Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) were not declared as kuffar due to their disobedience, they were declared kuffar apostates for rejecting a pillar (i.e. Zakah) of Islam. Those who fought ‘Uthman (may Allah be pleased are not considered apostates nor those who fought ‘Ali, this is because Ahl al-Sunnah are not extremists like the Rafidah.

The aforementioned takfiri-narration declares a number of major Sahabah as kuffar and is attributed to the likes of Imam Baqir (may Allah have mercy upon him) who is free of the ghuluw and extremism of the Rafidah who have lied upon him and his descendants and attributed mass-takfir, kufr, shirk, and ghuluw to them. ‘Ali b. Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) himself never declared his fellow Sahabah who differed with him as apostates and kuffar:
