Twenty-three years of Prophetic da’wah, the call of Islam and Tawhid, was not meant to replace the excessive saint veneration of various polytheists (like the Christians) with a set of new saints who can be invoked in du’a.
Shaykh al-Islam Abul-‘Abbas ibn Taymiyyah (rh) says:
One of the hallmarks of the Quburis is their ignorance of Islamic terminology related to Tawhid. You will often see them mixing up the terms such as bid’ah, shirk, khurafah, zandaqah, etc. You will often find them saying things like, ‘Vahhabis say visiting graves is shirk …’, or ‘Vahhabis say tabarruk is shirk’.
As an introduction, it must be made clear that there are indeed fine details on the subject of calling on someone other than Allah. Of course, not every call (نداء) directed to someone other than Allah is shirk (polytheism) in and of itself.
Before you read: Remember, you don’t need to be a zealous ‘Salafi’ (of the Hizbi type) to oppose and call out the falsehood and heresies of deviants who masquerade as traditionalists. Salafi-burnout has caused some to fall into other extremes. Be aware and don’t become a tool.
Shaykh Mohammad Shafi Qurayshi is the Mufti of the Sunni Shafi’i region of Talysh, Gilan (Northern Iran, which is one of the remaining Sunni strongholds of Iran after the anti-Sunni Safawi onslaught in the 16th century on Iranian Sunnis. He has never bowed down to the regime (unlike some sell-out Sunni Iranian clerics whom the regime loves to parade as their allies and ‘true Sunnis’) and never compromised his beliefs which have cost him and his family abuse and harassment from the Iranian regime.
When I raise my hands and say ‘ya Ali madad’ (‘O Ali help me’) with absolute Khushu’ (humility) and Khudhu’ (veneration) then that’s not shirk! That’s Tavassol! It stands for … umm … yeah! It stands for ‘O Ali ask Allah to help me ‘… Nah, ackchyually, it means ‘O Allah help me!’ Like the trinity:
1+1+1 = 1 so Ya dozen Imams madad = Ya Allah madad
َBehold! the disciples, said: “O Jesus the son of Mary! can thy Lord send down to us a table set (with viands) from heaven?” Said Jesus: “Fear Allah, if ye have faith.” [Qur’an]
If إماتة was not from خصائص الربوبية than Ibrahim would certainly not have used it has his first evidence against Nimrud. He used it, because it is so clear to everyone that it is something only Allah has power over.
Ponder over the fact that his disciples (who witnessed his miracles) did not ask him to create, cure or to even feed them (with heavily food). They said can your Lord do that! They did not ask Jesus directly (despite him performing all miracles!) knowing that all his miracles are really executions of the will of Allah. Yet you have modern day mushriks praying directly to other than Allah under the pretext of ‘wasilah’ and ‘tawasul’.
